At the age of 7, Stan Kaufman fell in love with photography using his Kodak Brownie. He set up a darkroom over the tub by age 13 and got his first 35mm camera shortly thereafter—an Olympus Pen EE (half frame).

Stan studied Biology as an undergraduate but switched to art and design following graduation. He attended Pratt Institute and received an MFA. He freelanced for many years, and his work was seen in numerous publications. After selling his images to corporate clients and adding to their collections, he switched gears again and used his photographic and creative skills as a graphic designer.
He is the owner of Creative Design Studio in Bayville, NY.

Stan’s work is a melding of his science and art backgrounds. He is an award winning photographer/designer/teacher who is fascinated by the patterns and colors in nature and captures the beauty of ordinary objects in extraordinary light. His photography is an attempt to express the most beautiful and powerful qualities of light. His painterly photographs have been used for illustrations, editorial pieces, exhibitions and decoration.

His images are meticulously developed in Photoshop, Photomatix and Corel Painter then printed on watercolor papers using pigmented inks. This combination is rated for more than 100 years longevity when under glass.

Stan resides in Bayville, with his wife Maria and two children and enjoys photographing Bayville and the surrounding areas since he moved there in 1996.
