update information
for the month of
JANUARY 2024

I’m in the process of updating and modernizing the entire website. Some of the old earth toned pages are mixed with the new gray tones. Over time they will all be gray toned. I’m also colorizing the intro photos on the family pages. Enjoy.

FAQs frequently asked questions

I’m glad you asked. I’m Stan Kaufman and the photos on this site were found in shopping bags, folders and shoe boxes after my mother passed. My brothers and I had not seen the vast majority of them. I couldn’t tell you why they were hidden?? But its been a delight looking at all of them, especially the ones from the 1920s – 40s, my favorite ones. I’ve restored many of the photos but they were not in the best of shape or taken with the best equipment. I never realized how much both my parents were into taking pictures, but it certainly must have influenced my own path in photography. Who knew?

There are currently more than 6,000 photographs on this site. The entire site consists of 6,500 individual files totaling hundreds of megabytes in addition to the photographs. There are 68 pages and a gazillion galleries. This is a much bigger project than I ever though possible.

You're welcome. I thought you'd want to know…

This site is a work in progress. Being such, it changes all the time. As more photos are added it becomes apparent that some of them belong in different groups. In addition, the entire site might look totally different when all 6,000+ pictures are eventually uploaded. It has gone through at least 30 permutations already. But I’m now trying to finalize (if that is even possible) individual pages and bring the software up to date.

The next phase of this project is to add captions to all the pictures. Right now I'm saving the information in the file name. But when I'm done each picture will have whatever information is available right under the picture as you see to the right or below. What I’m finding is to make the thumbnails look evenly spaced I have had to eliminate the caption, which is counter to what I had originally envisioned. The captions for most pictures are now under the full-size image (click on the thumbnail image).

As I switch to a new image gallery software there should be little to no waiting time for the pictures to appear. But until all the galleries are updated please be patient it could take a minute or MORE to load these pages for the first time. That's because there are so many pictures on a page. I've reduced their size a bit to speed them up. The new system is in place so you should see very fast page loading.

Update: The above no longer is an issue. All pages load at relatively fast speeds.

Stu Kaufman is editing down audio tapes and old 8mm movies that we have recently digitalized. These consist of family events, parties and just random days that my father or I felt like filming. I'll add them as they become available. To date we have 7 videos. Hopefully Stu can be persuaded to work a lot faster so we can all hear and see those special events from the past. See the video and audio links on the home page.

I implemented a comments system a while ago so that people could give feedback about the site. What I really wanted were names, dates and places to pictures that I didn’t have. Unfortunately I got very few responses so I eliminated that feature. I can bring it back if requested. But if you have a comment or question you can reach me at stankaufman@me.com or 1+516 375-2259.

I make changes and add pictures sporadically. It’s done when I have some free time. I worked on the site quite a bit the first few years (March 19, 2024 will be the 13th anniversary!). Then I got burnt out and have been working on it whenever I can. Please check back from time to time. I'm sure you'll see some changes. If you see an error, please let me know. If you know the names of people that I left out, tell me. Same goes for dates, places or errors.

Yes there is! If you go to the family page of each group (for the Spivack Family Circle go to the Florida or London pages) you will find a box for uploading. Follow the directions and upload your pictures. Please send me an email letting me know that you sent some pictures. I will make any necessary adjustments and place them on the appropriate page(s). I will let you know when the pictures are ready for viewing.

March 14, 2023. The first few pages of the site are the models for the rest of the site. Over the next few weeks (months?) I will be updating all 60 pages of the site. Please be patient during the transition.

Update: It’s all done.
